As a student of psychology, I’m often fascinated by what makes the most successful people in America different than the rest. It is interesting to note that the top 20% of our citizens control fully 94% of the country’s wealth. So what is it that makes them soar while the rest flounder near the ground? I think I might have an answer.
I don’t think that millionaires are necessarily smarter or even more risk-tolerant than other people. I think they simply see more opportunities for wealth creation than the rest of us. They find more ways to win because they don’t worry about losing.
Imagine what your next week would be like if every time you were faced with a new opportunity or desire, you thought to yourself, “What if I could do that?” and then “How can I do that?” Would you life be dramatically different? Based on my experience and my observations of highly successful people, I’d bet so.
Let me use an example from my own business to illustrate. As you know, I’m a bit lazy and I really don’t like working 9-5 or even five days a week. So I began to think, “What if I could find a way to earn a seven-figure income and not have to come in to work everyday?” Sounds a bit far-fetched doesn’t it? It did to me, too, but I simply accepted that it was possible; I just hadn’t figured out how to do it yet.
That set my mind to working on the “how” I might accomplish the goal. Once I had gotten beyond the impossibilities, I began to see the possibilities. And “BOOM” an amazing idea bounced into my head. Just like that, I had a million-dollar idea, fully-formed and ready to execute.
I’m not going into the details right now but suffice to say that the project is underway and beginning to take form. It’s a big idea so it’s taking a bit of development time but interestingly all the resources I need for it keep showing up just as I need them. Even more interesting is that most of the resources are free.
What could you accomplish if you allowed yourself to do so? What could you become or have or do if you didn’t hold yourself back; if you assumed that everything you attempted would succeed wildly?
Make a list of ideas you have and start figuring out how to make them real. Ignore the obstacles and just let your creativity flow. Focus on how things will work and pay not attention to what could go wrong. You’ll soon find yourself coming up with “obvious” answers you never thought of before.
Once you’ve got some ideas, starting implementing them right away. If you thought thinking them up was fun, wait to you start doing them!
I’ll look forward to hearing what amazing ideas you come up with and I’ll share my new idea as it gets closer to completion.
