Is This Your Life?

By Will Turner

Do you ever wake up in the morning, look at the day ahead and think “How did I get here?” When you were a little kid, was your burning desire to be a salesperson when you grew up? So how did you get here and what are you going to do now?

This isn’t another article on planning, but instead it’s one on honesty; more specifically being honest with yourself. In our work with salespeople and business owners, we hear and see the same things over and over. The most common lament is “I really want to make more money this year and work fewer hours.” Yet, time and time again, the people who utter these words don’t do anything at all to change their lives and behaviors

It’s time to be totally honest with yourself and those around you. If you truly want more out of life, you must commit, once and for all, to change yourself. Pick up the phone, call someone and get them to help you. No excuses and no procrastination. Do it before you finish this newsletter. Join the gym (and go), take a class, or find a coach. Do something right this minute. It’s your life; live it the way you want to.

If, however, you really aren’t willing to do what it takes to make more money, work fewer hours, lose weigh or whatever you give lip service to wanting; then be honest with yourself and everyone around you. Have the courage to say, “This is my life and I’m comfortable with it just like it is.” It’s okay to live your life by your rules with not apologies. Just be honest about it. You’ll gain more respect for honesty than for pretending to change when you don’t want to.
